DE LAS TERRENAS
Las Terrenas is a seaside resort situated on the north-eastern peninsula of Samana, far away from the country’s hectic centers of mass tourism. Once a sleepy fishermen's village, the town is located at the foot of a small mountain chain characterized by verdant jungles and mile after mile of coconut palms. It is the ideal place for a language intensive course combined with a relaxing beach holiday.
The language school is located in a quiet tropical garden at the foot of the beautiful Loma de Francois, well away from the noise of the main road. The small tourist center with its international restaurants and shops is easily reachable on foot from the school.
The nearby town beaches with their thatched-roof bars and restaurants are also within easy walking distance. Whatever direction you choose, you are sure to find a little piece of paradise with crystal-clear turquoise water perfect for swimming.
Las Terrenas is an excellent jumping off point for your excursions around the peninsula or further afield in the Dominican Republic. Transportation ranges in price, from the inexpensive local buses called “guaguas” and motorcycle taxis called “motoconchos,” to the more expensive taxi vans or car rentals. You may also rent motorbikes, scooters, quads or bicycles to transport yourself around. Traveling to the capital of Santo Domingo takes between 2 and 3 hours by car or public bus. The international airport in Puerto Plata is approximately 3.5 hours away by car.
location
During the last 20 years, the small town of Las Terrenas has become a popular destination for travelers and expatriates on long-term leave from their home countries, which has resulted in the formation of a vibrant international community. This aspect sets Las Terrenas apart from other tourist enclaves in the Domincan Republic.
